Learn More About PFLAG Deerfield
PFLAG Deerfield supports the communities of the Chicago North Shore and surrounding suburbs. It has been in existence for 40 years! We started in Glenview and when BJBE, the synagogue where we meet, moved to Deerfield we followed. There are some parents who have been PFLAG Deerfield members for 25 or 30 years! Each of them initially came for support and for each year that goes by we have more and more parents staying with us. We live by the statement “when you no longer need PFLAG, that’s when PFLAG really needs you!” We think of PFLAG Deerfield as a family. Many of us have made life-long friendships and it’s in that spirit that we bring others along to follow. Another reason is the warm feelings that we get when we know that we’ve made a difference in the lives of new parents who come for support and get it. There is just something so unique about being in PFLAG and staying involved over the years.
PFLAG Deerfield meets on the second Tuesday of each month from 7:15 to 9:15 pm at BJBE, 1201 Lake Cook Road, Deerfield, IL 60015. We also normally provide access to our meetings via Zoom.
PFLAG Deerfield is a member of the PFLAG Northern Illinois Council (PCNI), which is a coalition of PFLAG chapters within the greater Chicagoland area. It was formed in the late 1990s as a vehicle for unifying PFLAG’s presence and voice in Northern Illinois. Please visit the PCNI Website at pflagillinois.org for more information and to access PCNI’s fabulous newsletter, Open Doors.

Provide Support – PFLAG Deerfield meets each month to encourage each other, learn and share ideas. All are welcome. You need not be a member to attend. Meetings generally consist of a program such as a guest speaker, followed by a group discussion and a bit of social time with light refreshments. We also maintain a library of LBTBQ+ books and videos that can be checked out at meetings.
Offer Education – At most monthly meetings we provide an educational topic from a leader in the local LGBTQ+ community. We also periodically attend outreach events at schools, business, and other organizations to get the word out about PFLAG and to provide guidance about supporting the LGBTQ+ community.
Advocate – PFLAG strives to partner with other local and National organizations to educate key decision-makers about the issues that affect our loved ones and families, and to teach others how to use their voices to amplify our efforts toward a more equitable, and just world for the LGBTQ+ community.
